  1. ACCREDITATION EXPLAINED

The criteria for the accreditation of training providers define a number of requirements that include:

  • Administrative procedures and record keeping and policies.
  • Management review
  • Authorization of affiliates
  • Tutor selection, training and performance review
  • Issuance of training certificates
  • Learner Support
  • Delivery, Assessment and Moderation practices

NOTE: There are basically two different types of accreditation:

a)      The training provider or the institute must be accredited by a SETA. “ETQA” (Their offices, policies and procedures. This can be any SETA = does not matter what type of courses they offer.)

b)      Each learning programme or qualification is accredited with the relevant SETAETQA” who is responsible for this programme. Also note that the word “accreditation” does not mean they SETA accredited. It must say “NQF Accredited”.

 

“Provider accreditation can only be with one SETA, but they have the approval to train different programmes in different SETA’s. These programmes was approved by the relevant SETA who given them the approval to train these programmes”

Preparation:

Learner will receive full instruction from us before the course to assist with the preparation of the course. Where possible additional resources will be provided to learners who are not able to get there resources.

Assessment:

Learners are required to apply skills and knowledge obtained on the course in the workplace. As learners apply these skills, they produce evidence, which needs to be compiled into a portfolio of evidence (POE). This POE is submitted to Trainyoucan for assessment. Learners will receive a workbook and portfolio guide, which will guide them through the process. Any additional resources required will be provided by Trainyoucan to the learner, free of charge.

Each learner will receive a workbook during the contact session that will assist them with the building of their POE (Portfolio of Evidence).

  1. PURPOSE OF THIS COURSE.

This unit standard is for people who design and develop assessments to facilitate consistent, credible, reliable, fair, and unbiased assessments of learning outcomes. The outcomes may be defined in a range of documents including but not limited to unit standards, exit level outcomes, assessment standards, curriculum statements and qualifications. This unit standard will contribute towards the achievement of a variety of qualifications particularly within the field of Education Training and Development Practices and Human Resource Development.

In particular, people credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of design principles of outcomes-based assessment,
  • Design outcomes-based assessments,
  • Develop assessment activities,
  • Develop assessment guides, and
  • Evaluate assessment designs and guides.

  1. ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS & PREPARATION FOR THE COURSE
  • The credit calculation is based on the assumption that learners are already competent in the learning area in which they will provide training. (Have scope or experience to train in a specific field.)
  • Minimum of 14 days workplace experience in training or facilitation.
  • Basic communication skills (English = reading and writing skills on a NQF level 4 (Metric Level))
  • Able to attend the contact session and any of our workshops offered.
  • Access to email and where possible to the internet for research.

UNIT STANDARD RANGE.

1. This is a generic assessment unit standard, and candidates can design and develop assessments within any field of learning in line with their subject matter expertise. For the purposes of assessment of this assessment design unit standard, candidates should have access to the relevant outcomes for which assessments will be designed. However, the assessment of candidate-designers will only be valid for award of this unit standard if the following requirements are met:

> The credit value for the assessment/s designed is worth 8 credits (or the equivalent of 8 credits). This means the candidate can design an assessment for a single outcome worth 8 credits or more, or for a number of smaller outcomes collectively worth 8 credits.
The outcome/s selected for design of assessments require assessment in relation to significant, meaningful and coherent outcome statements that include assessment criteria and allow for judgements of competence in line with SAQA’s definition of competence i.e. embraces foundational, practical and reflexive dimensions of competence. As a general guide, the outcomes selected should carry at least 4 credits each or the equivalent. Single-task assessments will not be valid for awarding this unit standard. Outcomes that are highly task-orientated and do not demand much, if any, in the way of reflexive competence, will not be sufficient for measuring competence as an assessment designer in terms of this unit standard. Thus candidate-designers should select outcomes that enable them to meet the requirement laid out here.
At least three assessment activities are designed in detail, illustrating the use of three different assessment methods.
Candidates produce evidence that they can design assessments in RPL situations and for candidates who may have fairly recently acquired the necessary knowledge and skills through courses or learning programmes.
2. For the purposes of assessment against this unit standard, candidates should have access to organisational assessment policies, procedures and systems (including moderation). It is assumed the organisational policies and procedures are of a quality sufficient for accreditation purposes. Where such policies and procedures are not yet available, the provider may make general policies and procedures available for the purposes of this assessment.

Further range statements are provided in the body of the unit standard where they apply to particular specific outcomes or assessment criteria.

  1. WHAT IS THE PROCESS TO FOLLOW?

a) Enroll as a learner with Trainyoucan by completing the application form. (PDF document or the online enrolment)

b) Attend the contact session with Trainyoucan. (Each course starts with a 2 hour induction on the SETA’s and explaining the accreditation process. (Most of the learners find this very useful.)

c) We provide you with all the learning material that you need, including a workbook that you must complete. (Outside the classroom as required by the Unit Standard and OBE Learning)

d) You complete the workbook and submit this to our offices for assessments, or you can attend any of our FREE workshops for additional support. Any person who attended any of our courses can attend our workshops for FREE. One of the assessors can also evaluate your POE (Portfolio of Evidence) during the workshop and provide you feedback immediately.

e) You POE is submitted to our Assessors that will complete the assessment process and provide directly feedback to you through our online tracking system.

f) Your file is scheduled for verification with the relevant SETA and uploaded on completion. Your final Certificate will only be issued once the SETA verified your POE for security reasons and a final SOR will be issues. (SOR, also called the “Statement of Results” will be issued by the relevant SETA once the process was completed). You MUST receive your SOR one completion from any provider as proof that you were registered. NO SOR = NO ACCREDITATION. (Bear in mind that this process can take up to 3 months to complete.

g) We provide you with all the guidance and resources to register with the relevant SETA of your choice.

PURPOSE OF THE UNIT STANDARD

 

This unit standard is for people who design and develop assessments to facilitate consistent, credible, reliable, fair, and unbiased assessments of learning outcomes. The outcomes may be defined in a range of documents including but not limited to unit standards, exit level outcomes, assessment standards, curriculum statements and qualifications. This unit standard will contribute towards the achievement of a variety of qualifications particularly within the field of Education Training and Development Practices and Human Resource Development.In particular, people credited with this unit standard are able to:

  • Demonstrate understanding of design principles of outcomes-based assessment,
  • Design outcomes-based assessments,
  • Develop assessment activities,

LEARNING ASSUMED TO BE IN PLACE AND RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING

 

The credit calculation is based on the assumption that those entering programmes to learn towards this unit standard:

  • Have already achieved unit standard NLRD 115753: Conduct outcomes-based assessment, or equivalent,
  • Are competent in the relevant field in which they are designing assessments, or have access to subject matter experts, and
  • Are able to analyse and interpret the relevant outcomes (or standards).

UNIT STANDARD ACCREDITATION AND MODERATION OPTIONS

 

  • A candidate-designer wishing to be assessed, against this unit standard may apply to an assessment agency, assessor or provider institution accredited by the relevant ETQA.
  • Anyone assessing a candidate-designer against this unit standard must meet the assessor requirements of the relevant ETQA. In particular, such assessors must demonstrate that they assess in terms of the scope and context defined in all the range statements.
  • Any institution offering learning towards this unit standard must be accredited as a provider with the relevant ETQA.
  • External moderation of assessment will be conducted by the relevant ETQA at its discretion.
